Anacacho Orchid Tree
The Anacacho Orchid Tree
This little gem is one of my all time favorite native trees here in Texas because it is such a lovely little tree with so many elegant qualities. I consistently use the Anacacho Orchid tree in my landscape designs because it is incredibly versatile and unique. The fact that it is also a native tree makes it all the more valuable in the landscape.
Interesting leaves
The Anacacho Orchid trees leaves are one of its many beautiful traits. The bi-lobed, butterfly shaped leaves are bright green and play beautifully in the sunlight and filtered light. The tree is evergreen in mild winters and semi-evergreen (meaning they make a quick return) in harsher conditions.
The leaves interesting shape allows this tree to stand out even when it is no longer in bloom.
Small Stature
The Anacacho orchid is a relatively small tree growing to 6-12’ tall and t’+ wide and can sometimes grow very bushy or more upright. The size of the tree makes it easy to add to garden beds where a more impactful statement tree is needed but not necessarily the height.
I particularly love using this tree in my designs at the corners of clients homes where I can feel safe knowing it will not reach the eve of the roof and cause damage to the soffit. I also love using this in sensory gardens for its interesting texture and movement.
Fragrant Flowers
This tree is a pollinator magnet and the fragrance attracts more than the bees. It is an excellent tree to plant near a window or seating area where the scent can be enjoyed by humans too. The light, clean aroma travels throughout the landscape and makes itself known. It is really a happy smell that seems quite appropriate for this little jewel and because there is such a bounty of flowers each spring, it’s like you’ve planted yourself a fragrant bouquet.
The Anacacho Orchid Tree is little to no maintain once established, and not only is it drought tolerant but highly deer resistant as well. I truly encourage you to add this beauty to your garden and I’m willing to bet it will become one of your favorites too.

I saw these at MY HEB about an hour ago.
Good for them! I am loving the native selection they have been focusing on over the last few years, and the prices are typically great too.
