Landscape Consultation for Austin and the Surrounding Area
I know you’re busy, who isn’t? We are also running out of water and need to get away from large lawns and into more sustainable gardens and landscapes. This leaves you struggling to find the right plants, concepts and directions for your personal landscape and you may not know where to start. Well, I’m here to help because my Landscape Consultation is your one stop shop to do it yourself gardening, or hiring a contractor. Even if you have an established garden and just have a few weird spots you need to fill in, I have some answers.
I’ve been a landscape designer, installer, professional gardener and landscape consultant for over 25+ years in the Austin and surrounding areas, and I’m loving every minute of it!
This Service is For Everyone with a Yard
Everyone who owns or rents a home in the Austin and the surrounding area should

Lisa LaPaso, Austin Landscape Designer and Educational Consultant
A Landscape Consultation is a Lot More Than Just a Walk and Talk!
In a Landscape Consultation, it is my job to direct you from a design perspective, while teaching you how to create a drought tolerant, sustainable landscape that is xerophytic by the nature of the chosen plants.
Proper planting techniques, timing, watering and proper spacing are key to your success, so I make it a mission to educate you with information I’ve cultivated over my 25+years in the industry. .
During our visit we will go over your ideas, inspiration, concerns and landscape problems. I will provide you with solutions, a plant list customized for your space, a list of instructions, design information, my favorite nurseries, rock yards and more. You will also receive concept sketches like these (below) as an example of what we discussed and a my ideas on how to approach the process.
The “After” Affects can be Dramatic
Below are “before and afters” you can expect from a vision of where you want to go. Consultations are an excellent start to the creation of something pretty special. Once your hardscapes and beds are created, you have a plant list and planting instructions to assist you in hiring an educated contractor, or do the planting yourself.
Here are Examples of my Work
We will cover everything from soil to tree tops and I will get you excited about your space no matter the condition. I will also provide you with a list of -referrals and preferred vendors. You will receive all the benefits of my 25+ years in the industry providing the installation of stonework, irrigation, plants, trees, rocks and soil and I can save you thousands on mistakes while giving imaginative solutions that may surprise you. I can also keep you from trusting the wrong contractor by teaching you what to avoid and what to look out for.
If we should decide during the meeting, or up to 3 months after our visit that a full scale Landscape Design would be a better fit, the consultation fee will be converted to a design deposit. The complete plan can be very useful for completing a project over years, or to provide dimensions to a contractor. Most times however, a landscape consultation is all my clients need.
I Know Plants!
Plants are one of my favorite topics. Talk to me about my kids, dogs or plants and I could go on forever! My experience with gardening in the Central Texas landscape has taught me a lot about native and highly adapted plants. While I am certainly heavy on the natives, there are many adapted plants that are non invasive, drought tolerant and a great low maintenance addition to the landscape.
Here are just a few of my favorite plants and trees.
A Landscape Consultation Will Save You Money!
Not only do I simplify the process for you, I also provide you with information that can save you thousands on costly mistakes. I also work directly with a local contractor that can complete my concepts or designs to bring our vision to life.
